The search for the authentic self is a multi-million dollar industry, manufacturing discontent akin to the beauty industry. This piece is a challenge to the naturalisation of commodified authenticity, as part of a broader analysis of the Lacanian concept of reality.
Saskia Takens-Milne (b. UK, 1977) is a conceptual artist (of Dutch and Canadian heritage) and a graduate of Chelsea School of Art (2006) and Glasgow School of Art (2000).
She works across multiple disciplines, manifesting the uncanny with irreverent wit, to interrogate our indoctrination into the symbolic order of cultural norms and biases.
