Deity is an exploration of both healing and renewal and the revelation of the superpowers within oneself during cancer treatments. Combining repetitive images of hands and limbs as a symbol of physical protection and stained collaged textile on raw canvas to imitate the healing transformation of the body itself.
Andrea Mindell Cohen is a Spanish-Canadian visual artist based in Barcelona. She worked in the fashion industry for many years as a fashion and textile designer in Los Angeles and Barcelona. Presently, a multidisciplinary artist works combining various types of printmaking, photography, drawing, painting and textiles to create immersive installations. Her practice centers around generations of women, print design and textiles of North African and Middle Eastern cultures as part of her cultural memory.
Cohen received her BFA from Otis/Parsons College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, Ca. and a degree in fashion-textile design from the International Academy of Design and Technology in Toronto, Canada, along with her studies abroad in art history and photography at Lorenzo de Medici School in Florence, Italy. She continued her art practice at the Zaritsky Artists House of Printmaking and Surface Design, in Tel Aviv and later a residency in lithography and printmaking at Quadrat 9 in Barcelona. Recently attended a residency in alternative photography printing and on-site installations at Joya-Air, Granada, Spain.
