My name is Pia Jaime, I am a multidisciplinary Argentinian artist based in South London since 2018. I am also a passionate Educator, a Community project leader and a Founder Mother of the award-winning project Maternal Journal (www.maternaljournal.org)
I explore through photography, collage and drawing ideas on female identity, neurodiversity, mental health and sensory stimulus.
My sculpting practice includes found objects and tiles as a reflection on displacement and belonging (in intimate and public spaces)
After becoming a mother (2013) my relationship with my creative process changed greatly. The constrictions of my caring duties obliged me to turn my eye inwards. and using my camera as a way of having some perspective and distance from daily events became a ritual to process feelings of claustrophobia and powerlessness. I started Mother All ; a series of portraits (self and others) contained in the domestic space.” Self portrait with Toys” was taken during 2020’s lockdown.
My work has been published by Shutterhub and the PhMuseum and she has exhibited nationally and internationally.
In 2022 I completed her first public commission, The Fabric of Society, combining Photography and mosaic techniques and community workshops in a large scale mural installed in Sutton.
I am currently working on generational bonding and trauma using camera less processes and digital processes while continuing teaching and caring.
