Lisa Evans is an artist, mother, teacher, and former model. She received her BA degree in Performance Studies and Scenographic Studies from Aberystwyth University (2007) and her MA in Performance Writing from Dartington College of Arts (2010). Lisa is currently based in Devon where she works from her home studio. She has exhibited throughout the UK and in Europe.
Since 2008 Lisa has worked as a social engaged practitioner, delivering art projects for Women’s Aid, The Domestic Violence and Abuse Service, St.Petrocks homeless shelter and The Memory Café (Arts Council funded). In 2020 she received funding from The Elmgrant Trust to produce ‘Motherhood is …’, a participatory project and book created during lockdown exploring diverse experiences of motherhood.
Lisa makes artwork that expresses the complexity of our lives and human vulnerability. She has a strong desire to connect with those who are marginalised or under-represented in society to challenge views and question societal norms. Her practice primarily focuses on the female experience and empowerment with the intention to challenge perceptions and promote change.
Lisa’s process starts by focusing on subjects that have been under-represented within our culture and society. She takes stories, anecdotes and phrases from participants and uses these as the material of her practice re-representing these with sensitivity, care and consideration which have resulted as soundscapes, books, textile works and paper sculptures.
Lisa’s writing has been featured in the Maternal Art Magazine’s blog. In addition, she has created audio collages for radio, exhibited in the 2010 London Bienalle, National Library of Wales, The Studio Gallery, Odense, Edinburgh Palette and recently at Tate St Ives.
