Create to transform my reality | Show my mental load | Making the unseen visible | evacuate, extract, dispossess myself | Return to the household what belongs to them | Make alive and colourful | Resettle to the community, society, what it has generated. A rainbow mental load is a metamorphosis of daily existence.
Moïra Deepijan (aka Mother Moïra).
Born in Belgium in February 1994.
I became a mother in 2017.
I am a young mother-artist.
With a Master’s degree in Plastic, Visual, and Spatial Arts (Sculpture option) and a degree in artistic education, I focused my end-of-study research on maternal art and the characteristics of mother artists.
Maternity has always raised questions for me.
It first crossed my artistic path as a “daughter of,” to transform a succession of competing mother-daughter relationships. Then, as a mother myself, this subject matured by expressing the knots and riches that this new state revealed.
The birth of my son in 2017, followed by the death of my mother in 2018, allowed me to convert my experiences in artistic projects; “MARTRESCENCE: Artist & Mother in growth”.
Since 2018, I’ve been working on a project that combines monumental and immersive sculpture, installations, videos, and photography reports (#reportagedomestique), as well as performance and writing.
Many concepts are closely intertwined with motherhood.
I flow from transgenerational to transpersonal, from imperfection to creative impulses linked to the domestic context, the menstrual cycle, or even mental domestic work load.
I’ve been on the job market since the end of my education (if not the art market).
With a creative work time constrained by the one who financially feeds me and that of parenting, I continue my artistic research in some manner by electing to use my daily life as an artist-mother as raw material, through all available mediums.
I have created a “Art & Maternity” training initiative for mother-artists as part of my paid job, with the aim of making mothers’ art visible.
Make the unseen visible in your art as well as your paid profession.
