Mid heatwave, on the floor of a small London flat, a mother breastfeeds her feverish baby. The chaotic scene encapsulates the intensity of mothering, of putting everything aside at a moment’s notice. It's a visual representation of a mother's acute concern for her child and their wellbeing eclipsing all else.
Lottie is a multi-hyphenate artist with a social practice.
Using a range of established and experimental media her work explore events of ‘the human condition’; aging, illness and parenthood. She draws on personal stories, both her own and others, to question common assumptions and stereotypes.
Having become a mother in 2020, whilst struggling with an eating disorder her current photography practice centres on experiences of motherhood and perinatal mental health. Her intimate photographs capture the beauty and the challenge of mothering.
In conjunction with her art making she works with the NHS, presenting her story to improve understanding of maternal mental (ill)health and collaborating with clinicians and other service users to instigate positive change in mental health provision.
