Guadalupe Aldrete, formerly known as Lala Nomada, is a Mexican multidisciplinary artist based in Vienna. Parallel to her training as a visual artist and conservator she participated in several performance and body awareness workshops with internationally recognized artists. Most recently with Said Gharbi, Oisín Monaghan, Daria Halprin and Guillermo Gómez Peña. In 2018 she completed a master in “Art & Science” at the University of Applied Arts Wien. During September and October 2023 she was scholarship holder of the TQW “Stipendium Körper- & Performancepraktiken” for further training and research.
Her work has been presented internationally in several art festivals and exhibitions in the framework of individual and collaborative projects. These include residencies in the Austrian Frauenmuseum Hittisau (2021) and the Chinese Lushan Art Museum (Sichuan, 2018), as well as commissioned works like for the inauguration of the Croatian Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka (2018) and a performance art piece for PCP at the Science Gallery London (2023). Her solo exhibitions “Diluidos” (Michaela Stock Gallery; Vienna, 2018), “Antes de la Oxitocina” (Mexican Cultural Institute of the Mexican Embassy in Vienna, 2020), “Un Pueblo” (eindorf Kunstraum; Vienna, 2023) und “Liquid Ancestry” (Red Carpet Award; Vienna, 2023) included performances and performative – created artworks [painting, video, installation and photography].
Also part of Aldrete’s practice is to share space with other artists in order for them to give their own answers to questions she is asking herself. That’s how she’s been involved in the creation and co-curation of art festivals and platforms like the Month of Performance Art Berlin, MPA B (2011 – 2015), Latitud 32N/ 55S (2013 – 2015), and currently the SMOM international performance art platform (since 2020), as well as the performance and exhibition program of the viennese art space eindorf.
