Born 1980,Turkey. She lives, works in Birmingham and Istanbul.
Elcin Ekinci studied Fine Arts (B.A.) at YTU Istanbul, Master’s degree in Sculpture at Marmara University Istanbul and Accademia di Belle Arti L’Aquila Italy.
In Elcin Ekinci’s works, ranging from drawing, sculpture and installation to performative practices with various mediums. She focuses on layers of ontology, human nature, representation of biopolitics on body and gender issues. In her practices, she takes inspiration from theories of gender in feminist art history, psychoanalysis, ontology and body art. She composes visual connections between all these layers and representations on the way of her research progress.
Ekinci’s works are inspired by body representation based feminist art, organic abstraction and biomorphic minimalism. Body is central to her work as organic forms(figures) plays a major role in her practices. Bodies are deformed and provocatively androgynous beings. She produces in various mediums such as sculpture, installation, drawing, photography and video, depends on progress of her research.
Elcin Ekinci has exhibited nationally and internationally including Russia, Italy and Turkey.
