Created during the pregnancy of her first child, anatomical and natural history illustrations are manipulated to experience the artists experience of birth. Alternative mythologies result – joyous, surreal, organic and disquieting. Kochanowska’s photo collages represent the sudden and lucid knowledge of one’s mortality, seized at the point of giving life.
