This piece speaks to the duality of touch within motherhood. As a stay-at-home mother, the feeling of isolation was deep even while struggling for moments of solitude. Domestic material was used to represent the feeling of being submerged in, yet at odds with domestic life, isolation, and the intensity of motherhood.
Tiana Traffas is an artist and mother from the Driftless Region in the US. Major sources of inspiration for her work include taboos, the psychology of motherhood, ancient neolithic and matriarchal goddess cultures, myth and other sources of esoteric knowledge. She draws from the deep well of feminism and her experience to create her colorful artworks. When not in the studio, she enjoys good books and music, thrifting and floating in the river.
