“Delivery”

Experimental film about birth and the time of the postpartum period, 2023

„Delivery“ attempts to convey an emotional atmosphere of birth and the time of the postpartum period. The video combines photography, painting and drawing into an experimental film. Self-portraits shortly before and after the birth as well as watercolors, photographs and drawings of embryos and the placenta attempt to sketch the mood of becoming a mother from the artist‘s point of view.

While the images are projected, the fetal heartbeat and the uterine contractions of the artist‘s baby can be heard recorded by a heart sound contraction recorder. The gallery space is additionally occupied by a clothesline hung with maternity knickers. The projections of the video loop cast different, changing moods on it – from blood red – like the maternal blood flow after birth – to black and white.

Agnes Rossa is a visual artist and filmmaker who lives and works in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with a Master of Fine Arts and subsequently studied photography at the Art Academy Düsseldorf in Germany. She completed her postgraduate studies in media art at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, Germany.
