ART MOTHERS addresses to society, informing about the urgency of changing social structures, pointing out the lack of affordable childcare places, and calling for a rethinking of the lack of acceptance of motherhood in a male-dominated art world.
In the video “Art Mothers” I combine excerpts from interviews of female artists about motherhood. The interviews deal with the difficulties and problems that arise due to motherhood in the art world, because discrimination against mothers is still part of our everyday professional life as artists. Artists who are not mothers also have their say, because they too often experience discrimination about motherhood as well. My own statement is also part of the work. The project addresses to society, informing about the urgency of changing social structures, pointing out the lack of affordable childcare places, and calling for a rethinking of the lack of acceptance of motherhood in a male-dominated art world. At the same time, the decision to become a mother or to decide against it should have no influence on the evaluation of the female artists themselves. The goal of the project is to open a space for discussion and promote acceptance in every direction on the topic of motherhood.
